Gemotions

The dim light of the bus station accentuated the shadows under Sarah’s eyes. She sat stiffly on a cold metal bench, the familiar hum of the fluorescent lights a grating sound in her ears. The crumpled twenty in her hand felt like a burden. The wallet was in her bag.

She ran her fingers through her hair, a nervous gesture. She hadn’t slept. She had considered so many different scenarios. She was supposed to meet her family at the coast. This was not the way she had imagined arriving.

She saw the bus driver, a gruff looking man, and she quickly looked away. Each new arrival to the bus station made her flinch.
